COGNITIVE DIMENSIONS AND POLITICAL ACTIVITY

Abstract

In this study five cognitive dimensions were used to study the relation of cognitive organization to political activity: amount of information the respondent has, his ability to discriminate between components of information, his logical consistency, how far his concerns project into the future, and the breadth of his interests. Conclusions are reached regarding the relationships between these dimensions and opinion leadership, political participation, partisanship, and issue-oriented political behavior.
