Abstract
This study investigates voters' selective perception of political candidates' positions as a means of maintaining cognitive consistency between their own position on issues and their candidate preferences. The results indicate that, under certain conditions, voters preferring a particular candidate do selectively perceive that candidate's position on an issue in such a way as to make it consistent with their own.
