About the journal
Sexual Medicine Reviews (SMR) publishes evidence-based, in-depth reviews of the highest caliber on multi-disciplinary clinical or translational topics in Sexual Medicine. The primary focus of the SMR is Scoping Reviews and high-quality narrative reviews. These reviews, published quarterly, embrace wide-ranging, comprehensive subjects sexual function and dysfunction in all genders.
The scope of SMR represents the diversity of subjects in basic science and clinical practice that define sexual health, sexual function, sexual dysfunction and sexual medicine. SMR is targeted at the sexual medicine investigator, practitioner, and trainee, but is also explicitly intended to appeal to and serve the needs of a broader audience of generalists and specialists with interest in or need of a high quality overview of a specific topic in sexual medicine.
The Journal accomplishes this objective by publishing high quality, evidence-based reviews that support the mission of the International Society for Sexual Medicine.
As of May 22, 2023, submission of Review articles to SMR is no longer required to be by invitation only. Authors are welcome to submit Review articles directly in the SMR submission system.

International Society for Sexual Medicine Mission
Specifically, the ISSM aims:

To establish a scientific Society to benefit the public by encouraging the highest standards of practice, education and research in the field of human sexuality;

To develop and assist in developing scientific methods for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of conditions affecting human sexual function;

To promote the publication and encourage contributions to the medical and scientific literature in the field of sexual function.
